English Conversation Classes and More in Winnipeg

English as an Additional Language (EAL) is a place to connect with people and help them improve English skills through classes at Church of the Rock. Our mission at Church of the Rock is to KNOW GOD, LIVE FREE, and FIND PURPOSE.

If you would like to attend classes, there are links to registration/sign-up forms below. Everyone is welcome!

EAL Adults Conversation Using the Bible (Beginner/Intermediate) – Sunday mornings

  • Learn English by using the Bible.
  • It is for Christians or for people who want to learn about Christianity.
  • 9:30-10:30 AM – Sunday mornings during the first service at 1397 Buffalo Place
  • ongoing (except holiday Sundays: Dec. 24, Dec. 31, Mar. 31 )
  • BEGINNER Level meets in classroom A4 and INTERMEDIATE Level meets in classrooms A1 and A2
  • Kidz Rock is available for children to attend starting at 9:35 AM.

*NEW* EAL Adults Conversation Using the Bible (Advanced) – Sunday mornings

  • An opportunity to engage in lively discussion weekly around the topic.
  • Learn new vocabulary while having an opportunity to have an overview of the Bible.
  • See how the writers crafted the Bible from creation to the life of Jesus.
  • Starts April 7, 2024 and continues July 28, 2024 *NO ADVANCED CLASS MAY 19*
  • We meet weekly from 9:30-10:30 AM on Sundays in classroom A5 (at 1397 Buffalo Place)
  • Kidz Rock is available for children to attend starting at 9:35 AM.

EAL Adults Conversation Using the Bible (Beginner/Intermediate) – Wednesday evenings

  • This course is currently on summer break – fall session will be Sept. 25-Dec. 18, 2024.

TIME TO LEARN ENGLISH

Alpha ESOL Advanced English – Sunday mornings

(The Alpha Course in English for Speakers of Other Languages)

This is a 23-week course on Sunday mornings from 9:30 AM-11:15 AM, as follows:

  • starts SEPT 29 until DEC 15, 2024 – weekly (no lesson on OCT 13, 2024)
  • resumes JAN 12 until APR 13, 2025
What is Alpha ESOL?
  • Alpha ESOL is designed for people who do not speak English as their first language.
  • Alpha ESOL will help to answer questions about life and faith and many more in a relaxed, friendly, non-threatening environment.
  • You will also have the opportunity to practice listening to, speaking and reading English.
  • Each week we will have a speaker, and times of discussion led by a host.
  • You can feel free to respond honestly in the discussion and share what you think and feel about what you have heard.
  • Participants are encouraged to ask tough questions with no fear of feeling judged or pressured.

EAL Conversational English

SPRING 2023 –  January 12 to May 25, 2023. We will meet each week on Thursday evenings at 7:00 PM

  • IN PERSON – meeting at 239 Selkirk Ave (Church of the Rock North End)
  • ONLINE – meeting via ZOOM
  • Conversation groups for all levels of English.
  • Small groups with one volunteer who speaks English at an advanced level.
  • No childcare provided at this time.
  • Space is limited for this free program; sign-up required.

EAL Conversational English

September 2023 to June 2024. We will meet each week on Monday evenings at 7:00 PM.

  • IN PERSON – meeting at 570 Sharron Bay S. (Church of the Rock Bronx Park)
    • Meeting is in the basement hall
    • Entrance on the west side of the building, we are inside Springfield Height Mennonite Church
  • Conversation groups for all levels of English.
  • Small groups with one volunteer who speaks English at an advanced level.
  • No childcare provided at this time.
  • The Program is FREE, no registration is required.
